SAFETY – HIRING AND TRAINING
Hiring
Our drivers and driver trainers are the foundation for our strong safety record. When a driver applies for a position, they must complete the following:
- A motor vehicle record check for any driving violations
- School bus driving eligibility verification
- An in-person interview
- A background/sex offender and fingerprint search
- Drug screen, TB test and complete physical
Training
Only after all of the above are successfully completed, and the driver applicant is determined to be eligible for training does an applicant begin the Commercial Driver’s License training and testing. Upon completion, they work individually with a NACSB trainer who provides behind-the-wheel training on:
- Child safety
- Defensive driving techniques
- Pre-trip inspection
- Student management
- Mirror adjustment training
- Emergency evacuations and procedures
- Checking your brakes
- Danger zones
Once a driver demonstrates proficiency in all of the areas listed above will their on-the-road driving be evaluated.
Our proven-effective training program was designed by industry leading experts with years of school bus safety experience and is constantly reviewed and updated.
Not only does this program benefit new drivers, but helps experienced drivers as well. They are required to attend monthly safety meetings and annual training refreshers. These training programs reinforce key points and keep drivers up to date on any new regulations and best practices.
